Volkswagen has added a new limited edition model to its Camper line-up called the Berghaus.

Based on the California four-berth camper van it comes as standard with gas cooker, fridge, fresh water tank, electrically operated pop-up roof, and fold away table and chairs.

In addition the Berghaus comes with a bike rack, side awning, waterproof seat covers, metallic paint, 18-inch alloys and branded mats and badges. Also included is a pack of Berghaus consisting of a 25-litre Freeflow Rucksack, map case, travel water bottle and flask, then two Flare sleeping bags, gloves, hats, insulated mugs.

The California Berghaus is powered by a 2-litre diesel with a six-speed manual gearbox, which delivers a claimed average 36.2mpg and manages 0-62mph in 12.4 seconds. Road tax band is K thanks to the 205g/km CO2 emissions, so that is a cost of £580 for showroom tax and on-going £260 for annual road tax at current prices.

The Berghaus is the first ever limited edition of the California with 80 models being produced. It’s priced at £47,995 on the road and potential buyers can find out more at one of VW’s Van Centres around the UK.
