Renault has announced a range of updates to its popular Kangoo small van. The changes apply to the whole range, which includes the Kangoo, the larger Kangoo Maxi and the Kangoo Z.E. and Z.E. Maxi electric vans.

The ‘Phase 2’ Kangoo has been given a restyled front end to tie in with the family appearance of Renault’s current car line-up. A new front bumper with a larger and more upright front badge, along with new headlights and mirrors round off the styling updates.

The electric version, the Kangoo Z.E., has been given a blue logo to differentiate it more clearly from its conventionally-powered stablemates and a flap on the front bumper to allow easier access for battery charging.

Inside, the dashboard has been redesigned too with a new centre console aiming to lift interior quality together with a new steering wheel.

Renault says that improving the Kangoo’s perceived quality levels was one its main objectives for the Phase 2 version and it has concentrated on improved spot weld finishes, crimping quality on door panels and tightening up body sealant overspill. Soundproofing has been improved too for a quieter driving experience.

New equipment includes ESC (Electronic Stability Control) with Hill Start Assist and a function Renault calls Grip Xtend which improves traction on slippery surfaces. Renault’s R-Link touch-screen multimedia system, familiar from its road cars, now comes as standard for the Kangoo Sport trim level and as an option on other versions.

The R-Link system includes the TomTom LIVE system which was available on the previous Kangoo, but now with new downloadable apps including the ability to read emails to the driver and warn of potential problems ahead in real time.

The Kangoo’s 1.5-litre dCi diesel engine is available in three power outputs (74, 89 and 109bhp). The two lower-output engines both come with a stop/start system and can return a 66mpg average with CO2 emissions of 112g/km.

Engine servicing intervals have been increased for most of the range to every two years or 25,000 miles (previously two years or 18,600 miles).

The Kangoo range is available in two wheelbase lengths and a range of seating combinations.
