Renault’s Kangoo has been a loyal servant for British businesses over the past 18 years and while build quality has often been criticised, Renault says this is now a thing of the past. This statement is backed up by Renault’s impressive four year, 100,000 mile warranty.
The French manufacturer says it greatly improved perceived build quality during last year’s update, with special attention on spot weld finishes, crimping quality on door panels and tightening up body sealant overspill. Soundproofing has been improved too for a quieter driving experience.
In the cab
The high seating position for this size of van combined with the large windscreen means visibility in the front of the van is excellent. There is also a generous amount of storage space in the cab, and the driver benefits from electric front windows, CD player with USB connection, a trip computer and remote control central locking.
Driveline
Under the bonnet is Renault’s veteran 1.5 dCi engine, which is tuned to 75bhp and 180Nm. While this may not satisfy the needs of the more ‘progressive’ van drivers, it may be worth noting that the combined fuel economy figure stands at 61.4mpg and that higher horsepower versions are available (89bhp and 109bhp) if needed.
Load Area
The ‘ML 19’ denotes that this is the medium wheelbase, low roof with a 1.9 tonne gross vehicle weight. This equates to a 670kg payload, a three cubic metre load volume and just under 1.5 metres of load length. A tubular bulkhead, cargo lining and a nearside side loading door are all included as standard.
