Volkswagen is to offer the fourth special edition model, after the ‘Power’, ‘Canyon’ and ‘Edition’, of its successful pickup truck, the Amarok. The ‘Dark Label’ features distinctive styling, like Durban alloy wheels, matt black side bars and darkened tail lights and is limited to a run of just 300.

For an extra £7,000 on top of the starting list price (Black Label starts at £26,125 plus VAT), customers also benefit from extended wheel arches, a distinctive underride guard, tinted rear and side windows, a black rear bumper, door handles and B-pillars, hence the ‘Dark Label’.

The dark theme continues on the inside with Alcantara upholstery and Dark Label branded velour floor mats. The interior also features a multi-functional steering wheel, leather gear knob, sat-nav, a touchscreen display with Bluetooth, heated seats and wing mirrors.

Under the bonnet is, of course, the 178bhp, bi-turbo variant of VW’s 2.0-litre commonrail diesel unit, which is tuned to achieve 400Nm of torque. Of the 300 vehicles, 250 are coupled with the 8-speed automatic DSG box featuring Bluemotion (low-rolling resistance tyres, start/stop and regenerative braking) and the rest with the six-speed manual, which reflects the fact that this a vehicle targeted at owner-driver market.

A special anthracite-coloured UV-resistant special coating applied to load area completes the striking look, and is available in a choice of black, silver or grey. To customise the Dark Label even more, branded seat covers and bonnet protection can also be purchased, along with styling items including chrome door handles and roof-mounted styling bar lights.

The Dark Label will be available from the 22nd September 2014 from Volkswagen Van Centres. Click here to read the full review of the Volkswagen Amarok.
