Toyota has released a special edition ‘Invincible X’ trim level on its Hilux pickup truck. The new trim is the most luxurious Toyota Hilux spec to date, and features 17-inch alloys, leather seats and chrome side bars, and is available from £23,842 plus VAT.

Inherits Invincible spec

Aiming to minimise the misery and hazards of winter driving, the ‘Invincible X’ also inherits the Invincible’s creature comforts, including  climate control, cruise control, dusk-sensing headlights, front fog lights, rear privacy glass, front side, and curtain airbags, headlamp cleaners, and electrically adjustable heated door mirrors.

Toyota’s respectable Touch 2 touchscreen provides the infotainment and boasts Bluetooth, USB and iPod connectivity. The multifunctional screen is also used as a display for the reversing camera.

Solid workhorse

Over the years, the Toyota Hilux has earned itself a reputation a bit of a bruiser. Exceptional build quality and ruggedness means they are a firm favourite among pickup operators and ensures residual values remain high.

Only the top-of-the-range 169bhp variant of the 3-litre engine is available with the Invincible X, although it comes with a choice of either a five-speed manual or automatic transmission.

The Hi-lux does not have a selectable four-wheel-drive mode but is permanently in four-wheel drive while the differential automatically connects and disconnects, according to the level of grip available and what traction is required.

That extra choice

A choice of four wheel designs is available on the 17-inch alloy wheels; the standard Invincible, or a new five spoke ‘Rica’ in black, black and a machined finish, or black and graphite. The upholstery comes with the option of standard Invincible black leather, or black with grey, saddle tan or deep red.

Customers also have to choose between a hi-over bar, or a Style Pack, which features a front guard, silver-coloured under-run, aluminium-finish scuff plates, chrome door handles and chrome surrounds for the bonnet air intake and rear lamp clusters.

The custom designs are additionally embossed with the X logo, while the full black upholstery bears the Invincible name.

Pricing and availability

Order books open now, with deliveries to customers expected to arrive in late February. The manual Hilux Invincible X is priced at £23,842, and £24,842 for the automatic. All prices are subject to VAT. The next generation Toyota Hilux will be launched next year, and in the meantime check out the Parkers Toyota Hilux review for more information.
