In the cab
The cabin area offers a functional working environment with three front seats, but fitting three adults maybe a bit of a squeeze. The dashboard is well behind the likes of modern competitors in terms of style although there are several dash-top storage recesses.
Its gear level is mounted on the dashboard, the steering wheel adjusts for height and the handbrake lever is on the door-side of the driver.
On the road
This Scudo is offered with the smallest of the three engines available. The 1.6-litre engine is manufactured by Peugeot and has been developed in conjunction with Ford and offers just 89bhp, which means it has a sluggish start.
As far as handling is concerned, the Scudo performs well. The steering is precise and provides plenty of feedback and it doesn’t lean too heavily in the corners either. It can be quite noisy in the cab though as it isn’t the most refined vehicle in its class.
Cargo Capacity
Due to the low kerbweight, the Fiat Scudo offers a decent payload of 1,200kg. It’s the long wheelbase version, and the load area measures 2,584mm long by 1,600mm wide by 1,449mm high, giving a load volume of six cubic metres.
Summary
Whereas comfort and driving characteristics may be compromised, the Fiat Scudo is a tried and tested workhorse offering respectable loading attributes. There’s an extensive three-year, or 120,000-mile warranty, and the £12,290 plus VAT represents a saving of over £5,000.
