This week’s deal comes from Vans 2 Buy, with their offer on the Great Wall Steed. With an asking price of £14,450, you may not be saving thousands on the list price, but the Steed is the best-specced and lowest-priced double-cab pickup on the market.

In the cab

In terms of practicality and accommodation, the Steed scores very well as the cab is very spacious, the seats and steering wheel are adjustable, the seats are very comfortable and there’s even an armrest and multiple cup holders.

The ‘S’ may be the base model, but it still includes air conditioning, rear parking sensors and electric windows all round. You also get heated front seats, a radio (which we thought to be slightly tacky), USB/MP3 and Bluetooth connectivity and steering wheel-mounted audio controls as standard.

Practicality

Loading characteristics are a weak point on the Steed, with just a 1,460mm load length and 1,380mm load width. The payload isn’t exceptional either at 1,050kg, though it does meet the one tonne tax threshold, and towing capacity is just 2.7 tonnes.

Life Costs

Service intervals are woefully short at one year, or 10,000 miles, but if you live within 20 miles of any of Great Wall’s 60 nationwide dealerships, a drop-off and pick-up service is included free of charge. Fuel economy is quite poor for such a small engine, returning a claimed 34mpg on the combined cycle.

Conclusion

If you’re not carrying much, but require a cheap, comfortable and off-road-able pickup, the Great Wall Steed may be worth a shout. Click here to view all the latest deals on the Steed.
