How do you while away your time behind the wheel of your van? Those who spend their time musing on the world around them could put their talents to good use and could end up winning a brand new Mercedes van in a new competition run by the brand.

Mercedes is challenging the van community to get creative and has launched a competition it is calling #PoetryInMotion. The prize is a serious one, too, with the winning entry getting a brand new van.

The winner will be able to pick between a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 315 panel van or an electric Mercedes-Benz eVito.

Poetry slam

The theme for the competition is, unsurprisingly, vans and what yours means to you. As Mercedes says: ‘Whether it’s the unique vantage point it gives you on the UK, the people and businesses it enables you to support, or the freedom of pitching up somewhere new every day.’

Entrants need to follow @MBVansUK on Facebook or on Instagram and submit their poem using the hashtag #PoetryInMotion. If you don’t want to post it publicly then you can DM either of the two channels. And those not on social media can email vanpoetry@mercedes-benz.com. Entries need to be in by 31 August and to be submitted with your full name, business name, business postcode and contact number. The full competition T&Cs are available at: mb4.me/PoetryInMotion.

There’s no restriction on the type of poem – it can be a haiku, limerick, sonnet or anything else you wish. It needn’t be written down even – you can send a voice note or a video if you prefer. The only restrictions are that they have to be no more than 300 words or 90 seconds long.

The entries will be judged by a panel including George the Poet, a Peabody-award-winning spoken-word artist from London. The shortlisted entries will be presented at a slam poetry event in London on 5 October
