The Kia EV6 didn’t quite make it to market in time for us to include it in last year’s awards, but it’s a testament to just how good a car it is that nothing in the last 12 months has come along that’ll beat it for the Best Large Electric Car gong. It’s even taking the crown off last year’s winner and overall Car of the Year, the Skoda Enyaq iV.

What makes the EV6 so good? Everything. That bold, insectoid bodywork hides a practical interior and a large boot, and even the most basic, low-spec model feels futuristic and special inside. It feels good to drive, too. Whether you go for the cheaper rear-wheel drive or the all-wheel drive, twin-motor variants, it’s quick, comfortable and handles brilliantly. And that’s not something you get to write about every Kia.

But the best part of all is the battery tech, which is so well-sorted you’d think Kia had been doing this for decades. A real-world 300 miles per charge – complete with rock-solid battery indicator – virtually eliminates so-called range anxiety, and it’s efficient too, helping you cut down on your charging costs. A very worthy winner and one that’ll be tough to beat next year. Our sister site Carmagazine.co.uk agrees, hailing it as one of the best electric cars on sale in 2023.

Based on a 43year old Male the Kia EV6 would cost £503.44 to insure

The best-driving electric car this side of a Porsche Taycan. BMW’s really taken its old tagline of ‘the ultimate driving machine’ seriously here. The i4 effortlessly mixes the contemporary with the conventional, creating a car that won’t scare serious driving enthusiasts away with unnecessarily avant-garde touches but still feels modern and futuristic enough to appeal to any EV enthusiast.

It’s even pretty practical, with a large hatchback boot and comfortable space for four adults. A real-world range of around 280 miles is fantastic too. Several members of the Parkers team were desperate for the i4 to take the win in this category, but it’s just edged out by the EV6 thanks to that car’s lower price and shorter waiting lists.

Our previous Large Electric Car of the Year, the Skoda Enyaq proved good enough last year to take the overall Car of the Year title. It’s still an exceptionally good electric vehicle, and well deserving of your consideration if you’re shopping for a practical family EV.

The Enyaq offers space in abundance thanks to its boxy bodywork, with a massive boot and practical rear seats. The tastefully minimalist interior feels better than its siblings from within the Volkswagen Group, and a highly useful real-world 260 miles between charges gives it plenty of stamina. Make no mistake, this is still a really good electric car – it’s just pipped by newer opposition.
