The best Kia Stonic SUV for me

We’re expecting the most popular Stonic to be the 2 with the 1.0-litre T-GDI turbocharged petrol engine, and that’s understandable because it’s a very likeable car with some decent kit.

Our money would go on a far more interesting and toy-laden First Edition, though, along with the associated colour customisation. That’s where this quirky design is at its best.

We’d steer clear of the diesel – it’s noisy, unrefined and not even that much cheaper to run, plus is likely to be more expensive to buy.

Buying a new Kia Stonic SUV

Buying a new Stonic should be a decent experience. The firm has a solid reputation for customer service and many dealers, so getting to one shouldn’t be an issue.

It’s pertinent to ensure you’re not buying a car with odd colour combinations, though – it could put potential secondhand buyers off.

Buying a used Kia Stonic SUV

The big advantage Kia has here is the seven-year warranty, which still applies when the car is sold. With that in mind, always look for the maximum amount of warranty left that you can afford, but balance that with the aim of finding a clean, low-mileage model too.

It might cost you more to buy an approved used Kia, but you’ll get extra peace of mind by doing so.

Make sure you carry out a Parkers Car History Check to uncover any hidden history you should be aware of.

Selling your Kia Stonic SUV

There’s likely to be a lot of competition when you come to sell your Stonic, so with that in mind it’ll pay to make yours stand out. A comprehensive set of images will help here, and so will a short walk-around video of the car to upload to classifieds sites.

Have any minor damage fixed and give the car a good clean, or even pay for a professional valet.

Then ensure you list all the spec a potential buyer needs to know, including service history and mileage.
