Ford Ranger Plug-in Hybrid dimensions, payload and towing capacity
On this page you'll find full dimensions data, payload and towing capacity info for the Ford Ranger Plug-in Hybrid pickup truck.
Despite using a petrol engine and having to make space for a lithium-ion drive battery, this innovative version of the UK's favourite pickup still manages to offer almost all the same versatility as the diesel variants.
The plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) version of the Ranger comes only as a double-cab model and exactly matches the standard Ford Ranger dimensions on the outside.
However, the battery pack between the rear chassis rails has caused a 20mm reduction in the height of the load box, which now has the following measurements:
- Ford Ranger PHEV load length at floor: 1,638mm
- Ford Ranger PHEV load width between the wheel arches: 1,224mm
- Ford Ranger PHEV load depth: 498mm
An adjustable sportsbar and some rather clever roof rails mean that longer loads can easily be accomodated above the cab; this setup is standard on the Stormtrak version, optional on other models.
Ford quotes the payload of the Ranger Plug-in Hybrid as 1,049kg for the entry-level XLT variant, falling to 1,046kg for the Wildtrak and Stormtrak models. This is high enough to qualify as a commercial vehicle for VAT exemption purposes, and impressive considering the truck is carrying the weight of the lithium ion battery pack even before anything else is added.
What's more, it can tow up to 3,500kg (3.5 tonnes) as well. Though the 6,600kg (6.6-tonne) gross train mass means it can't carry maximum payload while towing this amount, this is still a strong performance.
