Ford Ranger dimensions (2024)

The Ford Ranger is a practical and spacious pickup truck, with more space inside and in the loading bay than its predecessor.

Crucially, every version has the necessary 1,000kg payload that enables it to qualify as a commercial vehicle, which is not something its direct rival can offer. More details on all the dimensions are below.

Ford Ranger Raptor capacity & size

4.5 out of 5 4.5

The Ford Ranger comes in a single cab and double cab, but it is the latter that makes up the vast majority of the range and will account for almost all the sales.

This version comes with seating for five and has a good-sized loading bay out the back.

Although it is fundamentally the same vehicle as the VW Amarok, some minor differences in bodywork mean that it is fractionally longer, although only by a few mm. The loading bay is marginally smaller than the VW’s though.

It comes with one feature that falls firmly into the 'Why didn't they do that before?' bracket - a small step on the side of the vehicle, behind the rear wheel. This allows you to get access to parts of the rear loading bay with far more ease than you can on many pickups, where you have to lean on the tailgate, scramble onto the side wheel or use a nearby stepping stone or similar. It's standard on higher trims but it is such a cheap option it should be the first box ticked.

Ford Ranger's side step is a genius feature.

Ford Ranger Raptor payload, weight & towing

4.3 out of 5 4.3

Not every version of the Ford Ranger has the same payload, but, crucially, every version can carry in excess of 1,000kg, even the MS-RT version with its 21-inch alloys. This means each one qualifies for the commercial vehicle taxation status.

The only factor to watch out for is that a couple of them boast a payload that is below the 1,045kg that is necessary to fit a hard top over the loading bay. Legally speaking, if you put a hard top onto a truck that has a payload below 1,045kg then you could be liable for the passenger car benefit-in-kind rates, which is notably higher than the van equivalent. This doesn't apply to the rolling load cover, though, which can be opened and closed using a button.
