This latest special edition of the VW pickup is based on the top-spec Highline trim but only gets the middle-ranking 204hp 3.0-litre TDI V6 turbodiesel engine - although that's not 'middle ranking' in the sense that any other pickup builder would understand, as it's still a very powerful truck.

Special features for the Dark Label include 18-inch 'Rawson' alloy wheels, matte black exterior trimmings, Carbon Steel grey metallic paint, side bars and rear styling bar. The interior is trimmed in Alcantara, and VW's eight-speed automatic gearbox is fitted as standard.

The VW Amarok Dark Label is on sale now, priced from £33,650 plus VAT.

Drivers are faced with challenges set to test various technologies including the electro-mechanical steering system, trailer assist and side protect assist.

We think the new Crafter is a brilliant large van, and it took our Van of the Year award for 2018.
