Things are getting a bit more adventurous at the Practical Classics Classic Car and Restoration Show in Birmingham this March. The show, running from the 18-20 March 2022, has partnered with Classic Car Auctions (CCA), which is showcasing a wonderful selection of characterful campervans on its Show stand.

Three brilliant camping classics join an impressive line-up of collectible vehicles up for auction. A veritable feast for classics enthusiasts; first up, there’s artist Rafael Appleby’s 1976 Volkswagen T2. Imported from the US and converted to right-hand drive, this eye-catching camper has been fully restored to the tune of £30,000 and has a replacement 1534cc engine, with only 25,800 miles on the clock. With a guide price of £15,000-£18,000, this seems a bit of a steal.

Then there’s a 1965 Volkswagen Type 2 (T1) split-screen camper. Sporting a more conventional Toga White finish with contrast Pastel Blue, the bespoke cream and white interior will suit the less flamboyant campers. The oak cabinet work is a particularly beautiful highlight of this luxury interior. Featuring a 1600cc engine, there’s only 23,000 miles on the clock. What’s more, there’s a regular service history and the gearbox and engine have both been reconditioned. Having been immaculately maintained and stored (in bubble wrap!), the guide price starts at £25,000 and this lot is expected to be popular.

Finally, there’s a very rare 1972 Ford Transit 90 custom camper—thought to be one of only four roadworthy Transit MK1 camper vans currently in the UK. Owned for 30 years before changing hands only 18 months ago, this rare Ford Transit has been gloriously restored.

Retaining its original 1662cc Essex V4 engine, there’s only 44,289 miles on the odometer. Featuring a splendid turquoise finish, the Transit also has a distinctive Canterbury Savannah glass fibre pop-top. The interior has a tan interior with carpet, reminiscent of its 70s heyday and the auctioneers are optimistic of achieving a guide price of £24,000 to £28,000.

Though it’s a great day out for enthusiasts, auction bidding doesn’t have to be done in person. For absentee bidding, please register online at least 48 hours before the auction day, where online, phone bids or pre-bid offers will be considered.

With enthusiasm for campervans increasing since the start of the pandemic, we expect interest in these lots will be high.
