The van world is normally a bit too sensible to indulge in retro-styled all-out off-roading special editions, which makes it all the greater when they come along. The Iveco Daily 4×4 Tigrotto was revealed at the 2022 IAA show in Hannover, but it has since proven to be more than just a glamorous show-stand attraction.

Iveco decided to launch the special edition in left-hand drive, but has now gone one further and confirmed that the outlandish but capable Daily will be coming to the UK in right-hand drive.

You have to go back to the 1950s to find the inspiration for the Tigrotto (which means tiger cub in Italian) – the original was launched in 1957 and there were a number of versions over the following 15 years. It was designed to be able to take on rugged terrain, and the modern interpretation is no different.

What does the 2023 Iveco Daily 4×4 Tigrotto come with?

As the name suggests, the Tigrotto is based on the Iveco Daily 4×4, so starts from a position of off-roading strength. However there are many additional features that will enhance this special edition’s ability to get that striking green, white and red paint job coated in a layer of brown mud.

It comes with three locking differentials, a low-speed gearbox and an upgraded ESP system to reduce wheel slip. And you won’t need a tape measure to see that it sits somewhat higher than your average van, meaning your ground clearance is boosted too.

The exterior visuals also include a set of bull bars, Tigrotto stickers and extra round lights at the front that sit alongside a pair of chunky towing hooks, finished in the same red that adorns the wheels, side steps and bash plates.

The highlight, however, is the interior, which also comes with a vintage twist. The seats are trimmed in a shade of brown leather that is rather striking for a commercial vehicle, and are finished with stitched ‘Tigrotto’ logos. They are complemented by specially branded floormats. The green and white continues on the interior too, dominating the dash.

What versions of the Daily can I get a Tigrotto on?

Before you get all excited and head out and spec up your standard Daily in this spec, this is limited to the 4×4 versions. However, there appears to be a degree of flexibility when it comes to the models available. It is offered as a chassis cab in the UK, but the flat bed in the pictures shown here give a hint to the sort of thing that can be done with this as a base. It will come in a panel van variant in Europe, but not in the UK sadly.

It will come with on- or off-road specification, with one of the difference between these being the tyres – essentially this mirrors the on- and -off-road trim on the standard Daily 4×4.

Although it could be offered in a variety of different weights, those who are restricted to a 3.5-tonne vehicle for licence reasons will miss out – it’s only coming in a 7.2-tonne version in the UK.

Despite the changes, the Tigrotto can still be practical, though – go for the 7.2-tonne model and it will come with a payload of up to 4,165kg. Unsurprisingly, this is slightly lower than the maximum 4.9-tonne payload that the undecorated Daily offers, though.

All versions come with the same engine and gearbox combo though – a 2.0-litre 180hp diesel with the eight-speed automatic gearbox.

How much will the Daily 4×4 Tigrotto cost?

Getting list prices out of Iveco is always a bit tricky, due to the fact that it does a lot of dealing with big companies and how much you pay depends a little on how many you are buying. However, expect to pay a hefty premium for all these adornments.

You should be able to order one now, though, with the first examples heading to us around autumn time.
