The GWM POER300 is set to go on sale in the UK with a price tag that will be one of the lowest in the UK for a pickup truck. The company is the one behind the Ora 03 electric hatchback, but the POER300 is taking a more traditional approach for a pickup, as it will come with a diesel engine.
The POER300 comes with a 183hp 2.4-litre diesel engine, a nine-speed automatic gearbox and full-time four-wheel drive. It boasts a 1,000kg payload and a braked towing capacity of 3,500kg, which will be aided by the 480Nm of torque from the diesel engine. The most eye-catching number for many will be the price, though, which starts at £31,495 (not including VAT.) This puts it firmly in the same ballpark as the other value-focused pickup trucks in the UK, the Isuzu D-Max and the KGM Musso.
The truck might be an unfamiliar one to UK buyers but it has been on sale under different names in other countries – it is known as the GWM Cannon in Australia for example. And POER is pronounced ‘power’ apparently, not ‘poor’…
Three versions
That £31,495 price brings the first of three trim levels. The Lux model brings a good level of kit still, with 18-inch alloys, leatherette seats, rear parking sensors, park assist and keyless entry. All versions also get a 12.3-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and wireless phone charging.
The Ultra trim starts at £34,830 and adds leather seats, with the front pair also being ventilated and power adjustable. Then there is ambient lighting in the cabin and the footwell, an auto-dimming rear mirror, privacy glass, front parking sensors and a 360-degree around-view camera. A tailgate step should help with access to the loading bay too.
The range-topping Vanta model starts at £36,830 and brings a series of upgrades that are largely cosmetic. This includes black wheels, mirror covers, side steps, door handles and wheel arches. The front grille and badge are also in black. There’s a black sports bar too.
When can I buy a GWM POER300?
The GWM POER300 is set to go on sale in the UK from September. It will be offered through the brand’s 46 dealerships around the country.
