This is the brand-new Toyota Land Cruiser Commercial, the load-carrying version of the sell-out SUV. It’s pitched at users in need of serious off-road ability, but who don’t need the extra seats and load capacity of a Hilux. Toyota notes that it’s much better equipped than the previous version, as well.
The new Land Cruiser Commercial is based on the J250-generation Land Cruiser SUV, a car only available in limited numbers in the UK that sold out very quickly. The Commercial arrives in the UK as a passenger-carrying car, but it’s then taken to a facility at Toyota’s Burnaston factory to be converted into a Commercial. The back seat and much interior trim is stripped out, then a load floor, side window inserts, and steel mesh bulkhead are added in. A similar transformation turns a Toyota Corolla Touring Sports estate into a Corolla Commercial.
The Land Cruiser Commercial’s load bay measures 1,685mm long, 1,090mm high and a maximum of 1,286mm wide. Cargo capacity of up to 2,000 litres (by VDA measurement) is available. Toyota hasn’t quoted the vehicle’s payload, but it does have a towing capacity of 3,500kg.

Toyota emphasises the Land Cruiser Commercial’s off-road ability which is, indeed, considerable. It has ground clearance of 205mm and can wade through water up to 700mm deep. Approach and departure angles are 32 and 17 degrees, respectively. There are high and low gear ratios. And loads of systems to ease off-road driving including crawl control, hill-start assist and downhill assist, plus the Multi-Terrain Select system that changes various vehicle parameters to suit the prevailing ground conditions.
Power comes from a 2.8-litre, four-cylinder turbo diesel engine producing 205hp and 500Nm of torque, driving all four heels via an eight-speed automatic gearbox. The SUV’s fuel economy is rated at 26.4mpg on the WLTP cycle, with CO2 emissions of 276g/km. In early 2026, a 48-volt mild-hybrid system will become standard-fit across the Land Cruiser range. Toyota touts its benefits in improving refinement by smoothing out engine starting, if not its efficiency gains.
Standard equipment is more generous than in previous versions of the Land Cruiser Commercial, reflecting the fact it’s more closely aligned with the SUV. 18-inch alloy wheels, electrically adjustable driver’s seat, heated front seats and steering wheel, power tailgate and dual-zone air-conditioning are all included. The infotainment system has a nine-inch touchscreen display plus wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto connectivity. Driver assistance features include front and rear parking sensors and blind spot monitoring.
The Toyota Land Cruiser Commercial goes on sale on 1 August, and first deliveries are due in September. It carries an on-the-road price of £51,729.17.
