The Jaguar X-type estate was launched in 2004, and despite having a diesel engine from its introduction, Jaguar was never able to compete with the breadth of range that BMW, Audi and Mercedes-Benz were able to offer customers. But that isn't to say the X-type estate is a bad car. It is exceptionally refined, well made, and manages to balance excellent comfort with pretty sharp handling. Changes to the range in 2008 allow a greater degree of personalisation for customers, making the X-type's interior feel more special than that of any rival and the luggage compartment is surprisingly useful.
