Summary***--

  • As an off-roader, it's one of the best you can buy; retro styling
  • At times crude; uncomfortable; impractical

Despite its iconic shape and heritage that stretches back to World War Two, the Jeep Wrangler has never really caught on in the UK. Buyers have been put off by an eye-watering price tag, thirsty 2.5-litre and 4.0-litre petrol engines and only three-doors. This replacement solves those problems – for the first time there’s a four-door model – and manages to retain much of the style that’s associated with Jeep, such as chunky wheel arches, tie-down bonnet straps and a fold-down windscreen. It’s also still more than capable when it comes to off-roading. But buyers looking for on-road comfort, generous amounts of equipment or a practical interior will find a better alternative elsewhere.
