The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) has released the light commercial vehicle registration data for November 2016 – and it’s another record-breaking month for what’s set to be the best year for UK van and pickup sales ever.

Last month saw 29,784 new registrations, an increase of 2.5% over November 2015, and the best performance for a November since the SMMT began keeping records in 1996.

Year-to-date the overall LCV market is up 2.1% to 348,448 units.

Winners and losers in November 2016

Lighter vans (2.0-2.5 tonnes) are up 43.1% compared with the same period in 2015, while pickup sales have soared by 36.7%.

Heavy van (2.5-3.5 tonnes) sales fell for the second month in a row. However, with 18,316 registrations (compared with 19,150 in November 2015, a drop of 4.4%), these remain the dominant sector of the LCV market.

Ford continues to be the van brand to beat

Ford remains top of the LCV sales charts, and has now surpassed 110,000 registrations for 2016 – a year-to-date increase of 12.3% versus 2015.

Despite its November 2016 performance – 8,951 sales – being 0.7% down on November 2015, Ford continues to have the best-selling model in every sector except the small van category, where the Transit Connect is ranked second behind the Citroen Berlingo.

The Fiesta Van, Transit Courier, Transit Custom, Transit and Ranger are all number one in their respective areas of the UK market.
