Skoda CEO Bernhard Maier has confirmed the availability of Virtual Cockpit technology – as seen on Audi’s A3, A4 (shown above) and TT – on at least one of the brand’s models from April 2017.
Kodiaq signals exciting times for Skoda
Speaking at the launch of the Czech manufacturer’s seven-seat SUV the Skoda Kodiaq, Mr. Maier hinted at a swathe of exciting new developments for the brand, comfirming the imminent introduction of Virtual Cockpit. “We will see the Virtual Cockpit available in week 16 of 2017” said Mr. Maier.
As to what cars the technology will initially be available on in the UK, it is unlikely the new Kodiaq will be one of them. A March 2017 launch date has been mooted for the seven-seat SUV, meaning any new technology additions are likely to be held back.
Octavia a likely beneficiary of virtual cockpit
Any delay will almost certainly be short-lived however, especially seeing as the original Kodiaq concept car – titled the Vision S – was the first Skoda to preview the technology. A more likely first beneficiary of the system is the soon-to-be facelifted Octavia, with a revised interior and restyled exterior expected for the popular hatchback.
