Admit it – the L200 is the Mitsubishi you were most worried about when it was announced the diamond-studded brand was going to stop offering new models in the UK. Every cloud has a silver lining – or indeed, any of the colours in the Series 6 L200 range – as a new special edition has arrived to keep people flocking to the showrooms

Based on the high-specification Barbarian, the Barbarian+ deserves that plus, as it offers £1,900 (ex VAT) of genuinely useful accessories for £750 – bringing the price up to £30,350 (CVOTR) before options.

Top of the extras list, literally, is a top. The GST Plus II with pop-out side windows, integrated central locking and a sliding bulkhead window. This is joined by hardtop roof rails and load bay lighting.

That silver lining we mentioned? It’s actually black, and fits in the load bed, providing useful protection for your new pickup

These extras are available with any colour, and on manual or automatic L200s. The Barbarian specification features Mitsubishi’s excellent full-time, selectable all-wheel drive system – Super Select 4WD, 18-inch alloy wheels, leather upholstery with heated front seats, illuminated door Barbarian door entry guards and LED mood lighting.

At launch the Series 6 L200 improved on safety significantly as well, though this is the Barbarian, not the X, so doesn’t have the full suite of new tech. It does feature Forward Collision Mitigation, Lane Departure Warning, Active Stability and Traction Control, seven airbags, Hill Start Assist and Trailer Stability Control – many systems that are shared across the L200 range..

Want to avoid showrooms? The L200 Barbarian+ is available online via the aptly-named Mitsubishi Motors’ Buy Online service.
