Audi's second-generation TT is clearly related to its predecessor but thanks to sleeker lines the Coupe has a more aggressive and sporty appearance than before. If any criticism could have been levelled at the original TT, it would have been a lack of interior space and the fact that it was a less rewarding drive than some of its rivals, including the Nissan 370Z Coupe and Volkswagen Scirocco.

Audi has taken both of these factors on board to create a larger but lighter TT Coupe with improved handling and more space inside. Despite the added room, this is still a 2+2, but some of your rear passengers may just be a little more comfortable than before. As with the majority of Audi models the interior or the TT is a polished and refined place to be with the main controls angled slightly to the driver for a more focused feel. The TT should, once again, be top of wishlists for people who want a stylish sports coupe. There's a wide and varied choice of engines available including an economical TDI which is capable of 53mpg as well as some rather impressive petrol engines that mix low running costs with excellent performance.

Engine line-up

There’s a good choice of engines to choose from, with even the petrol engines offering affordable running costs, while earlier versions are also available with a 3.2-litre V6. There’s also the option of a six-speed manual gearbox, six-speed automatic or seven-speed automatic. One of the highlights is the 1.8-litre petrol engine, introduced on the Coupe model from 2012. The turbocharged engine will go from zero to 62mph in 7.3 seconds, while economy is a useful 44mpg. Despite the smaller size, it’s an eager engine and, as well as the running cost savings, it is an excellent low-cost entry in to the range. With more rivals than ever, the TT has got a tough task on its hands to be the stand out Coupe in its class. Have the improvements over its predecessor been enough to keep it ahead of the competition? Read the full Audi TT Coupe review to find out.

What owners say...

Audi TTs aren't typically renowned for their practicality, however with a driver and one passenger there is a lot of cabin space and is rather very comfortable.

If you need practicality then don't buy an Audi TTS. Its not that sort of car. I do find the rear seats handy for the odd time I need to pick up the kids though and its this aspect that probably made...

Large boot for a sports car, great visibility due to large windows, back seats (though very small and almost unusable) meant you could fit three in the car.
