Audi differentiates its high performance offerings from those of rivals from BMW, Mercedes and Jaguar through use of its quattro all-wheel drive system, claiming it gives superior traction. It might well need it because the S6 has been fitted with a V10 developed from that in the Lamborghini Gallardo supercar. While it may use a supercar engine, outside appearances are far more understated with few visual clues to its potential, which is a part of the Audi’s appeal. The sole exception to this is the fitment of ‘daytime running lights’ at the front. Two rows of five LED lights glare out from the front side air-intakes, delivering a clear message to other traffic on the motorway – ‘Get out of my way!’ The S6 lags behind the BMW M5 in terms of sheer acceleration in the dry, but will turn the tables when conditions become slippery. It’s also significantly cheaper to buy too.
