- All-new Vauxhall Vivaro shown first in Life MPV specification
- Previews look of brand new Vivaro panel van, on sale in 2019
- Based on latest PSA Group platform, electric version coming in 2020
As before, the 2019 Vivaro will be built at Vauxhall’s UK plant in Luton. The difference is that now Vauxhall is owned by the PSA Group, the new model is based on the Citroen Dispatch and Peugeot Expert, rather than the Renault Trafic.
Isn’t it a little soon for a new Vauxhall Vivaro?
It’s unusual for a van to be replaced after just five years (the current Vivaro first went on sale in 2014), but is hardly a surprise in this case given Vauxhall’s change of ownership.
PSA was obviously not keen to see Vauxhall carry on building a van based on a French rival, and we knew back in April 2018 that it would be moving the Vivaro to its own platform in 2019 – we even published a mock-up image of what that van might look like.
And as you can see from these official pictures of the Vivaro Life, we weren’t too far from the mark.
What else do we know about the new Vivaro van at this stage?
Since it’s based on the Expert and Dispatch, we can speculate on quite a lot – including the likely availability of 1.6-litre and 2.0-litre turbodiesel engines and a choice of three body lengths; the Vivaro Life only comes in Medium and Large sizes, however.
There will also be only one roof height (the current Vivaro offers two). In keeping with the Peugeot and Citroen, this means the new Vivaro will be only around 190cm tall (1,900mm), taking the stress out of accessing car parks.
Another useful feature will be the twin sliding side doors, one on each side, which are fitted as standard.
In addition you can expect an impressive array of on-board technology – including autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, 7.0-inch touchscreen infortainment systems with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, 180-degree reversing camera and a head-up display.
You can also expect to pay extra for much of this, rather than for it to be standard equipment.
When does the new 2019 Vauxhall Vivaro go on sale?
This is still to be confirmed, but we believe you’ll be able to buy an all-new Vivaro by the middle of 2019 at the latest.
Official pictures of the Vivaro panel van are due to be released by the end of January – at which point we should also receive more information.
We’ll update this page as soon as anything new is available, so stay tuned.
Will there be an electric version of the new Vauxhall Vivaro?
Production of the electric Vivaro will begin in 2020. More on this as soon as we have it, too.
