Cost £3800 in Jan '03 with 85k miles on the clock. Aircon, airbags, leccy windows and roof; bargain!

    Costs

    5 out of 5 5.0

45-50mpg perfectly possible, even around town and high-speed motorway. Full service under £150 at local garage. Bargain again!

  • On the road

    Driving

    4 out of 5 4.0

Comfy on long journeys; took family up to Scotland in comfort (but see below). Very firm and assured on road, whether motorway or tiny country lanes.

    Performance

    3 out of 5 3.0

Perfectly adequate considering diesel, age and weight. However, needs hard push to get going with the A/C on! Fine once you're at speed, though.

  • Living with it

    Reliability

    5 out of 5 5.0

Absolutely no problems; feels solid as a rock, even after nearly 100,000 miles.

I love it; it's not a boy racing car, but neither is it as poncey as a Merc / BMW.

    Comfort

    4 out of 5 4.0

The first car I've ever been able to drive for 500 miles without feeling knackered by the whole business. Lovely (although over 6-footers might have trouble with headroom.)

  • Security and Service

    Security

    3 out of 5 3.0

Never been broken into, although I live in the sticks. Probably only average given its age.

    Service

    3 out of 5 3.0

Can't say; have never been to Audi dealer.
