In their own words

Bought this 16 year old car with 247,000 miles, yes 247,000 miles and it's so far only needed niggles sorting which all these old A4s seem to need after so long on the road (all easy d.i.y if you're handy). These are what was needed and what to look out for on an old B6 A4 : Thermostat and coolant temperature sensor due to running too cold (£20 + £5), drivers door wiring broken in the hinge rubber boot, cutting out remote central locking and electric windows/mirrors (£20 wiring loom repair kit), Glove box hinges broken (£4 repair kit), armrest lid catch (£4), remove scuttle area rubber drain bungs that get blocked with debris, to allow rainwater to stop gathering under battery and pollen filter areas (£0). Other common niggles are airbag light on the dash (usually a bad connector under the seat), rusty wheel arches, sticky turbo causing limp mode (can be cleaned out while still fitted). The engine itself (TDI PD 100) is bulletproof and these are known to exceed 300,000 miles if given the chance. It's a comfy car and even in 100hp form it picks up speed very well with bags of torque. The gear change is easy and light and despite being a large car it doesn't feel huge in town. Parking is pretty easy as the rear window is large and near enough vertical with very little bumper overhang so easy to reverse without guessing where it ends. These are still handsome cars even now with lots of comforts inside in SE form and above. This later SE has four electric windows, CD stereo and CD changer in the glovebox, dual climate control, remote locks, trip computer, alloys, alarm, ABS, Front and side airbags, cruise control, electric mirrors, ESP. These cars are great if you know what to look for and buy a good one (or are willing to buy one with niggles and fix it yourself). High mileage on PD tdis is not a concern if the car has been cared for most of its life!
