  • Economy

    Value

    5 out of 5 5.0

Purchased mine from a family friend at about £2k below list value - therefore the best motoring buy I've ever had.

    Costs

    4 out of 5 4.0

Despite 500 miles a week, has proven economical at 36 - 37mpg & not much more expensive to run than a VW Polo. Overall, cheap to run for a such a big car.

  • On the road

    Driving

    4 out of 5 4.0

    Amazingly effortless motorway muncher.

    Performance

    3 out of 5 3.0

Not as quick as might be expected for such a torquey engine, but in gear acceleration is still impressive.

  • Living with it

    Reliability

    4 out of 5 4.0

Mechanical reliability so far superb. Had a couple of problems with drivers electric window regulator & it failed my first MOT with it due to wayward track rod - but considering the amount of use it gets, very dependable.

    Understated yet classy.

    Comfort

    4 out of 5 4.0

Generally superb on long trips but suspension compliance & body control could be better. Refinement at motorway speeds unbelievable for a diesel however.

  • Security and Service

    Security

    4 out of 5 4.0

I've still got it - and it seems sophisticated - enough said really.

    Service

    3 out of 5 3.0

Used independent VAG specialist Oxford Garage in Hurworth North Yorks, who are reasonably priced, very helpful & competent. Wouldn't dream of using a franchised dealer!

Great - Very little smoke & has so far used no oil.

    Other

A great buy - can recommend this car wholeheartedly but would ideally plump for a later 180bhp version.
