In their own words

The car drives more eagerly than I expected given the engine size and auto box. I'm glad I chose it over the manual options as it does make longer journeys and congested town driving more relaxing. The ride is firm but still comfortable and cabin space is fine (the early 1 series was a bit cramped). It has excellent build quality and that 'sticks to the road' feel of the RWD BMW's I've owned previously. On motorway runs I get 60mpg which is excellent. The cabin is a nice place to be and it's a practical car - I was tempted by the new saloon version with its sleek looks but have already benefitted from the carrying capacity of the hatchback. I wasn't so keen on the large kidney grill but the looks have grown on me, and after all, you spend most of the time inside looking out!

How reliable do you find the car?

I had a small ding on the car on arrival which I had to return it for repair and then a factory recall for an electrical issue (didn't cause me any problems though).

Does the car do everything you expected it to do?

I was a bit worried about the performance would be in real life with a smaller engine and auto box but it's surprisingly good.
