In their own words

The E46 is more or less bomb proof. The build quality very good and definitely better than subsequent generations of 3 series I’ve seen. Perhaps BMW reduced weight along with costs on subsequent models but the E46 is well made and when you own one you’ll understand what I mean; it’s a solid car. The fit and finish is very good (except from the soft coatings on the dash and centre console). The paint quality is stunning, up there with Porsche 996/7 finish levels. The interior leather has warn well though the drivers seat is looking tired now. Mechanically any issues have been few and minor. The three litre, six cylinder engine loves to rev and while not as fast as big brother M3, it is still quick and the M-Sport suspension is firm enough for the power. Yes it could do with better brakes, yes the front end can get a little light at high speed (better damping would help) and yes the front wheels arch rust is common but for the money my 330ci been amazing value over the last 10+ years.
