Value
A well-maintained one is fantastic value - so much quality for so little money nowadays. 4K for a really smart one!
Costs
Only expensive thing is main dealer servicing, but parts are cheap and the 318i is a 4-cylinder model - not as expensive as the 6-cylinders to run or keep.

On the road
Driving
I love driving this car. Put quality tyres on, keep it serviced and it goes wonderfully.
Performance
140bhp from a smooth torquey engine. High mileage no bother if well maintained. Mine has 130K and drives like 30K!

Living with it
Reliability
Starts first time, every time. Only ever had to change one bulb in 2 years and 35K miles. Main dealer servicing is a bit pricey, but essential in the long run unless you know an ex-BMW mechanic or specialist. None in my area annoyingly!

No matter what they say, most people secretly like the look of a smart BMW. Great when visiting the parents or going out - it's never out of place.
Comfort
Wonderful for the driver, just OK for the passengers but can still do 3+ hour trips with no bother. Lots of leg-room and comfort in the front.

Standard BMW stuff is OK, but added a CAT1 just to be sure. No worries so far.
