Other BMW 6-Series (2011 - 2018) models:

  • Summary

    5 out of 5 5.0

What does this car say about you?

That I like cars (true), that I'm a bit of a car snob (moi?), that I've more money than sense (but car seems to be holding its value), that I'd prefer some exclusivity over equivalent 5-series (true-ish, if we set aside M5).

What do your friends / family / neighbours think of the car?

Until they've been out in it, stunning to look at. After they've been out in it, stunning in all regards.

Would you buy this car again and why?

Yes, because I can't fault it for what I need. But in retirement (a few years away) I may prefer petrol to diesel, especially if I also switch to convertible from Gran Coupe.

What are you likely to buy next?

    BMW - 650i, M3 or M4 convertible or coupe.

  • Buying experience

    4 out of 5 4.0

Type of dealer you bought from?

    Franchised

Did you buy this car new?

    No

    What price did you pay?

    £49,500

When did you buy the car?

    February 2013

Did you get a good deal and why?

Ex-demonstrator with a good specification but initially very over-priced. Dealer responded positively to evidence of very similar but cheaper cars available from other BMW dealers, so price came down to what I reckoned was a good deal.

Is there any special reason why you bought this car?

    What was the dealer like?

Friendly, knowledgeable, professional - but still a car dealer with a car he wanted to sell. so pleasant to deal with and ready to negotiate but still we both knew this was about business and a lot of my money.

  • Driving it

    5 out of 5 5.0

    What's it like to drive?

Faultless - the engine is quiet, refined and very powerful - so long motorway trips completely effortless - and extremely comfortable for four. Changing to Sport mode (with variable damper control) transforms car - now feels like a rocket-propelled sports car with extraordinary agility for a car of this size.

    What's it like to park?

A doddle with reversing cameras and surround view (so you can actually see lines marking car park space). Would be tricky without these aids.

  • Living with it

    5 out of 5 5.0

Have you had any problems with the car?

BMW tracking device wasn't working (or wasn't installed correctly, more like), comfort access door handle failed - but otherwise fault-free and feels to this day like a new car. First set of tyres (Michelin) lasted 25000 so no complaint when all four needed changing at £1000+.

What's most practical about your car?

Four doors and a large boot, on a coupe with stunning looks - albeit this is a big car (length/width bigger than a 5-series, almost as big as a 7-series).

    Favourite gadget, option or accessory?

Five-years service inclusive, head-up display, comfort seats, comfort access, variable damper control, surround view (cameras) - all unlikely to have been on my list if buying new but now very glad to have them all.
