Want to know everything there is to know about this car?

In their own words

It’s a practical, reliable car that pulls enthusiastically and handles better than you’d expect. It still looks good (more recent BMW grills are an abomination). But the suspension is unforgiving on badly-surfaced roads (and isn’t that all of them these days?) and it doesn’t feel ‘special’ enough for the money. The 2018-onward X3 is nicer inside and has more up-to-date equipment levels. My local dealer is less than friendly. This car will make a good used deal for someone, though.

Does the car do everything you expected it to do?

Good: Strong engine that accelerates quickly despite the car’s bulk, particularly impressive in ‘sport’ mode. Comfortable driving position and seats on long journeys. Usefully spacious with the rear seats down. Decent fuel economy given its size. Excellent, easy-to-use infotainment controls. Reliable. Bad: Terrible turning circle. uncomfortable on poor surfaces particularly square-edged potholes such as sunken inspection covers. The sat nav is drunk. Small infotainment screen. This model was updated shortly after I bought this car and the newer models have more up-to-date equipment and slightly more ‘special’ feeling interior.
