Ford Sierra Hatchback

Great. Picked one up for £400 in 2001 and did 35k miles in a year and it never died on me once.

If you have a problem, just go to a scrapyard (I crashed mine and got loads of replacement parts (too many to list) from a scrapyard for £500).

    Driving

Pretty good, has quite a lot of kick for a 1.8 without injection.

    Performance

    3 out of 5 3.0

Not too bad. Power steering would be nice on a vehicle this size, does NOT like snow, ice, rain, going in a straight line (maybe a tracking or balancing problem). However, does get you from A to B without a problem.

  • Living with it

    Reliability

    5 out of 5 5.0

Great. As I said, I bought mine on 105k miles, condemned it to its death at 142k miles and it never died until I said it could.

Probably good for its time (I don't know I was only 9 when my car was made) but you can safely hang your head in shame when driving around. All versions but the Cossie look fairly bland.

    Comfort

    4 out of 5 4.0

Usually kitted out with the comfy 'Old Skool' seats that feel like a sofa, spacious (4 of us slept in one once!)

  • Security and Service

    Security

    1 out of 5 1.0

My alarm went mental one day, so I fairly easily pulled it out and got the engine started within a minute, also got stolen several times (eye candy for car thieves).

    Service

    1 out of 5 1.0

Didn't go to Ford for a service, cannot comment.

  • Problems and Ownership

    Problems

    Engine

Again, great. By the end if my car's life, half the engine was held together with string and parcel tape! But it plodded along fine.

    Other

If you want a car thats solid as a rock, drives like a tank and has a habit of disappearing from your house in the middle of the night, but usually turning up a week later, then they're a good buy, if you want something with some street cred don't bother.

    Ownership

Did you buy the car new?

    Used

Would you buy the same model again?

    No

Did you buy from the same manufacturer again?

    Yes
