  • Summary

What does this car say about you?

I'm not really one to buy cars for image. I bought this because I wanted something practical, safe and durable. People can think what they like.

What do your friends / family / neighbours think of the car?

    I don't actually care.

Would you buy this car again and why?

Probably. Although I plan to run this for about the next ten years, so ask me again them.

What are you likely to buy next?

I'll keep this until it breaks, then buy whatever low mileage 3 year old car looks like it'll go the distance but can be bought for reasonable money.

  • Buying experience

Type of dealer you bought from?

    Franchised

Did you buy this car new?

    No

    What price did you pay?

    £13,800

When did you buy the car?

    June 2012

Did you get a good deal and why?

I think so. It was not a desirable model, being petrol and base spec, but as a low mileage driver who looks for durability rather than showroom glitter, it was what I was after.

Is there any special reason why you bought this car?

    What was the dealer like?

Ok. He was clearly trying to steer me towards more expensive cars, and to sell other services, but then that's his job.

  • Driving it

    4 out of 5 4.0

    What's it like to drive?

In a word - smooth. The petrol engine is silent at idle, with a bit of a snarl when opened up. The car rides very well on the smaller wheels of the SE spec, and the handling is tidy. It's noticeably tighter handling in 'sport' mode, with a sharper throttle response. Fuel economy isn't bad for a relatively large supercharged, petrol, automatic car. I'm getting 35-40mpg in normal use, and 40-45mpg on a run, but I don't drive it hard.

    What's it like to park?

It's a big car, but visibility is good. The steering lock is very impressive, which makes it nimble in tight spaces, although this might just be on 16" wheels. The non-sport models have the old style 'gunsight' Mercedes badge, which makes judging the front easier as a minor plus.

  • Living with it

Have you had any problems with the car?

    No

What's most practical about your car?

The boot - I often fill the car it to the max. The integral luggage cover and cargo net which pulls up to the roof seats up or down is useful when filling above seat height.

    Favourite gadget, option or accessory?

I'm not a fan of gadgets, which is why I wanted base spec. But the basic SE model still has everything I could want - climate control, trip computer and decent stereo.
