Mercedes-Benz C-Class Saloon C36 4d Auto (1996/P)

Mercedes-Benz C-Class Saloon C36 4d Auto (1996/P) - Owner Review

Road holding superb and predictable, though can get a bit leary in the wet, but it's a great blend of continental cruiser and track day car. Really is a jack of all trades. There's no better car on the road today.

Value

5 out of 5

Superb. They are not cheap, but worth every penny and more.

Costs

3 out of 5

Expensive insurance, running costs are not that bad if you have her serviced at a specialist. I get 24 mpg in the rush hour. I've had nothing go wrong with her but parts will be expensive.

Driving

Performance

5 out of 5

Blistering acceleration, taught cornering and really, really powerful brakes. The torque means most overtaking can be done without kicking down, but there's real punch in the mid rev range. Auto box needs getting used to, to get the best out of her.

Reliability

5 out of 5

Faultless after 120k. Everything works as it should and feels solid.

Most people don't even know what it is. Doesn't shout or scream just goes like a train.

Comfort

4 out of 5

Excellent seats, driving position and ride considering the hard suspension and low profiles, shame about our pot hole infested roads. Considering the performance it's fabulous.

Security

5 out of 5

Excellent locks, immobiliser and alarm. Just watch that badge doesn't get ripped off.

Service

5 out of 5

Excellent, helpful and considerate service. MB made me feel important.

Problems

Bodywork
Paint seems to be more prone to stone chips than previous Mercedes, probably due to change to water based paints, especially at bottom of doors.

Engine
None.

Gearbox
None.

Other
None.
