  • Summary

What does this car say about you?

People probably think that due to the size of the car I'm a family man, even though there are only the two of us. I like the fact the vehicle is different to other "rep" type cars. That's me, not unique just a bit different.

What do your friends / family / neighbours think of the car?

My dad is 6'2" and struggles getting in but that's probably due to his poor mobility. Anyone sitting in the back has always complimented the ride. When it's valeted it still looks great and neighbours have passed comment on the design and lines.

Would you buy this car again and why?

Mmmmm! Reflecting on the reliability, performance, features, road tax and insurance costs. I would be really tempted by the new 508 model.

What are you likely to buy next?

Probably something along the lines of the Kia Sportage or similar. I do like the Skoda Yeti and it performed really well on Top Gear up against a Range Rover and who would think those two brands could be compared. But as my better half is a brand snob, no chance of me getting a Skoda.

Type of dealer you bought from?

    Didn't buy from a dealer

Did you buy this car new?

    Yes

    What price did you pay?

    £11,000

When did you buy the car?

    July 2007

Did you get a good deal and why?

Bought from private seller after test driving a number of similar sized options such as Mondeo, Mazda and Vauxhall. Car was 2 years old and immaculate with low miles. Price I paid was £500 less than dealer price.

Is there any special reason why you bought this car?

As I drive 25,000+ miles I wanted a reliable, safe car.

    What was the dealer like?

Nice guy and no problem with the sale although I did have reservations in case the car went disastrously wrong.

  • Driving it

    4 out of 5 4.0

    What's it like to drive?

Great moving off from a standing start and uphill due to good torque. I enjoy the ride as a whole though after a couple of hours I get some back discomfort even though the lumber support, on the drivers seat only, is fully adjusted. Still averaging 40 mpg but think the power steering is going to fail soon.

    What's it like to park?

All round vision is fine and great when reversing into a spot but an absolute nightmare for U turns due to the huge turning circle. My neighbour has a BMW 520 which is similar in size but out manoeuvres me completely.

  • Living with it

Have you had any problems with the car?

Now got 142K miles and used everyday for work which involves a variety of driving conditions. Since I've had it the vehicle has been recalled for a front wheel bearing issue. ABS sensors on back wheels failed, air con hose failed. The LED dashboard display system fades dramatically in hot weather. Rear light clusters developed earth fault but I found solution on an owners' forum. On the whole I've been very pleased with the vehicle it has always started first time and never broken down.

What's most practical about your car?

Good driving position with bags of legroom in the front and back. The boot is very cramped with tight access and height restricted. Windows don't hold condensation and they clear pretty quickly when iced up.

    Favourite gadget, option or accessory?

The folding heated wing mirrors are a bonus. Though I was unable to have a boot mounted cycle carrier due to the boot lid being flimsy.
