Other Vauxhall Astra (1998 - 2005) models:

  • Summary

    4 out of 5 4.0

What does this car say about you?

Has a good image, it's understated, but still pretty. A bit more mascaline than a celica, but probly not quite as attractive. However if you stick on some nice 17inch wheels it can improve the look no end. Can turn heads, but black shoes the dirt pretty badly. Timeless styling reminds me a bit of a BM or alike

What do your friends / family / neighbours think of the car?

Love it. They like the classy understated styling, and have been impressed with the way it drives.

Would you buy this car again and why?

Yes, its ticked all the boxes and has performed really well. Would love the convertable at some point. Would certainly opt for the 2.2 again.

What are you likely to buy next?

Hopefully getting a company car in the next 6mnhts, I like the look of the latest generation Astra Sportshatch, Honda Civic and Fiat Bravo. The latest Hyundai coupes are pretty nice also

  • Driving it

    5 out of 5 5.0

    What's it like to drive?

Fantastic, great handling and the 2.2 engine is brilliant. One of the finest cars I've driven. Seems alot quicker than the stats suggest, especially while accelerating. Power seems to just keep coming, which makes it fantastic on A roads and motorways. Ride is firm but comfortable

    What's it like to park?

Easy, pretty good visibility, though end of boot is difficult to judge, but no problem. Power steering is very light while parking.

  • Living with it

    4 out of 5 4.0

Have you had any problems with the car?

Nothing out of the ordinary. Rear coil springs went at 60k, faulty oil switch caused leek which damaged aux belt, however was easily and cheaply repaired

What's most practical about your car?

Room for 4 adults, good size boot and the ski hatch can be useful. Internal build quality is excellent, very german in approach. The engine can still give you upwords of 30mpg, which isn't out of the way considering the performance you get.

    Favourite gadget, option or accessory?

The power steering is great, as it stays active for about 10 seconds if you stall the car or loose power, which makes bringing it under control easy.
