  • Economy

    Value

    4 out of 5 4.0

Underrated, which means good value used: £10600 from main dealer for 16 months old with only 13k miles.

    Costs

    4 out of 5 4.0

Costs to date not bad. Still under warranty if anything goes wrong. Fuel consumption good (genuine 40+mpg at 70mph).

  • On the road

    Driving

    4 out of 5 4.0

Good comfortable car. Stable and enjoyable to drive over long distances.

    Performance

    4 out of 5 4.0

Although engine not the most powerful on paper (115bhp), performance is actually good and engine pulls very well from low revs.

  • Living with it

    Reliability

    4 out of 5 4.0

No problems to date, though oil consumption high compared to my old Mk3 Golf. User manual says car can consume 1 litre/1000 miles!

    Image

    4 out of 5 4.0

In my opinion, a stylish, very well built, but underrated car. Also, it looks distinctively different from the Golf (i.e. no longer a Golf with a big boot grafted on).

    Comfort

    4 out of 5 4.0

Very comfortable over long distances (400+mile trip to Scotland last year with no discomfort). Adults might find rear leg room wanting if front seats fully back.

  • Security and Service

    Security

    4 out of 5 4.0

Alarm and immobiliser, deadlocks etc. Thankfully, haven't had to use them.

    Service

    3 out of 5 3.0

Servicing costs: London dealers probably charge more per hour than brain surgeons. Have received good main dealer service and much cheaper in the West Country.

  • Problems and Ownership

    Problems

    Engine

No probs, though oil consumption high. However, fuel consumption is an excellent 40+mpg at a steady 70mph.

    Other

Slight creak from dash to be fixed under warranty.
