Other Citroën C4 (2004 - 2010) models:

  • Summary

    5 out of 5 5.0

What does this car say about you?

It's stylish - and I like to pay attention to keeping it waxed and presentable and clean on the inside. I hope this says i'm stylish?! I love the fact that whenever I approach it (car park etc), I genuinely still feel it's one of the most stylish on the road.

What do your friends / family / neighbours think of the car?

Generally they like it. The interior gets a lot of comments too! The digital display, the quality sound system and how comfy it is.

Would you buy this car again and why?

Yes definitely. It's reliable and stylish and isn't stupidly expensive. It's all very well to wax lyrical about a £90k bm / merc but in the real world with badge snobs aside, this is every bit as nicer car.

What are you likely to buy next?

Another Citroen! The new DS5 looks pretty good. The new c4 doesn't look as cool as my coupe (in my opinion) but everything moves on suppose. I will keep this car until it falls apart - or my wife writes it off!! (and currently at 87,000).

  • Buying experience

Type of dealer you bought from?

    Franchised

Did you buy this car new?

    Yes

    What price did you pay?

    £13,500

When did you buy the car?

    May 2007

Did you get a good deal and why?

We set out thinking about the perfect price for us to spend - we had already chosen (from the brochure we got on previous times) the 'extras' we wanted. We were met by the sales manager who was friendly and offered us the price we wanted!

Is there any special reason why you bought this car?

Size, style, options available were quite plentiful compared to other manufacturers.

    What was the dealer like?

Friendly and approachable. Though a relatively small footprint, the dealership was courteous and rememberd us well from previous visits - this showed us they wanted to sell the car for elling a good car, rather than other places wanting to sell to 'meet the targets'.

  • Driving it

    5 out of 5 5.0

    What's it like to drive?

I love this car to drive, and it's one of the main reasons I chose it. It 'feels' premium. The steering is very responsive, the seat position is flawless for me and easily adjustable. Due to acoustic treatment I chose it gives a quiet ride on motorways. The engine gives a nice pull when called upon and remains composed at any speed. It's an ideal engine size. One thing, some people like 'sport suspension' (ie slightly firmer) - when buying again - given the state of british roads - I would not go for a sport model!

    What's it like to park?

Because of the 'tapering' shape of the rear of the car, it takes getting used to in all honesty. However, it's very easy to get the orientation correct, it's more difficult to get it 'dead straight' when reversing though!

  • Living with it

Have you had any problems with the car?

Genuinely nothing has gone wrong. Though there was a slight niggle at around 60,000 miles when the cruise control was set 'on' and then randomly it beeped at me and said 'speed control system faulty - see dealer' on the screen. This was due to 'dirty contacts' - it was fixed gratis and has been fine ever since! There's a real stigma about Citroen, so I've learned, but as an owner I can safely say I've never experienced any slur on reliability.

What's most practical about your car?

I love the size and shape of this car (and the general hatchback/coupe style in general). I carry quite a lot of stuff for photographic work (lights, studio equipment, backdrops and of course lenses etc). The boot is capacious, tall and very deep. It effortlessly carries a lot - however, if you need to, you can put the rear seats down flat.

    Favourite gadget, option or accessory?

The best thing, for me, about cars is how good the sound system is (and i'm not talking boom boxes etc!). There were two options that really appealed to me here - 1) JBL hifi system (13 speakers and subwoofer in the boot) and the acoustic laminated security glass. The sound system is brilliant and always makes me glad I chose it. The security glass adds to safety should the worst happen but also makes the ride really quiet - which adds to the comfort especially on long journeys.
