Other Ford Escort (1990 - 2001) models:

  • Summary

    3 out of 5 3.0

What does this car say about you?

Nothing much really, I think it just showed that I wanted a fairly sized but cheap car.

What do your friends / family / neighbours think of the car?

They never said much about it really it was just an average car.

Would you buy this car again and why?

Although the transmission went I am looking to buy another escort. The biggest problem I found with the car was the poor 1.4 engine and I can't help thinking that if I had gotten a 1.6 it would have been a totally different experience. Which is why I'm looking to buy 1.6 now.

What are you likely to buy next?

    Another escort

Type of dealer you bought from?

    Didn't buy from a dealer

Did you buy this car new?

    No

    What price did you pay?

    £1,000

When did you buy the car?

    June 2005

Did you get a good deal and why?

Is there any special reason why you bought this car?

Have always liked the look of the escort, and its fairly cheap for the size.

    What was the dealer like?

  • Driving it

    3 out of 5 3.0

    What's it like to drive?

Very nice actually. It was a very smooth car and the gearbox was firm and smooth too. Both city and motorway driving suited the car very nicely. It was nippy enough for the city, yet was still able to cruise nicely on the motorway. The seats could get uncomfortable on long journeys though and on a few times when I drove a long distances I would end up having a bad back the day after. The biggest thing that let the driving experience down though was the horrible unrefined 1.4 8v engine. I would not recommend an escort with that engine to anybody.

    What's it like to park?

Fairly easy. The long tailgate can make it a bit difficult to judge the back of the car but its no more difficult to park than any other car this size.

  • Living with it

    3 out of 5 3.0

Have you had any problems with the car?

The transmission went in the end which would have cost more to replace than what the car was worth so I sold it for £200 for parts. Nothing else went wrong though, the engine seemed to use a little too much oil and petrol though and If your looking to buying one I wouldn't recommend the unrefined 1.4.

What's most practical about your car?

The size and a huge boot.

    Favourite gadget, option or accessory?

Not many really just a basic family hatchback, it did have alloy wheels though which in my opinion do wonders for the overall look of the car.
