Honda Civic Saloon 1991-
  • Economy

    Value

    4 out of 5 4.0

I paid too much for it, but it has lasted very well despite something of a thrashing over the years.

    Costs

    3 out of 5 3.0

Surprisingly expensive to insure - not sure why. Honda servicing costs have been disappointingly high and uncompromising. MPG should be lower. Replacing an aerial costs the earth!

  • On the road

    Driving

    3 out of 5 3.0

Has a lovely little engine which revs high and appears to be indestructible. However, roadholding doesn't match engine performance! Prone to understeer and wheelspins.

    Performance

    3 out of 5 3.0

Fantastic engine, although could do with more power as performance drops significantly with even 1 passenger. Gear ratios are useful in 2nd and 3rd, pathetic in 4th.

  • Living with it

    Reliability

    5 out of 5 5.0

Seems fine so long as you treat it right; no real problems with electrical gadgets (what a blessing!)

    Image

    2 out of 5 2.0

Quote from friend: "Did you actually choose this yourself?" Not good. Those who have driven it soon review their opinion, though.

    Comfort

    3 out of 5 3.0

Ok - I'm long-legged and find myself unable to relax while driving. Plenty of room in the back. Trim is seriously boring, but solid.

  • Security and Service

    Security

    3 out of 5 3.0

No one seems to take an interest in the car, so I have not needed to fit any alternative systems.

    Service

    2 out of 5 2.0

Frequently muppets. I have abandoned the network as the car is too old to benefit from FSH from dealer in terms of re-sale value - decent local specialists get you a better deal!
