When did you buy the car?

    May 2007

Did you get a good deal and why?

Is there any special reason why you bought this car?

By this time in my driving career my car ownership CV featured a MK1 Fiesta 1300S, a MK1 XR2, a Ford Puma, MK2 MR2 Coupe, MK2 MR2 GT and a MK3 Cortina. These were tough acts to follow! After much thought I decided that it might be time to try a convertible. Having read many positive comments about Honda's VTEC valve train, I also thought it was time to see for myself what all the fuss was about. As always I also wanted a real driver's car that was reliable, good looking and excellent value. I therefore decided that it was time for a Honda CRX....

    What was the dealer like?

  • Driving it

    What's it like to drive?

Fantastic. It feels powerful, precise and very well built. The gearchange is short and precise, the steering is well weighted and the (standard) exhaust sounds great. As expected the engine seems willing to rev to very high values. If held in gear until the VTEC change over occurs both the engine performance and sound change significantly - it's very addictive! It feels significantly quicker than the MK 2 MR2 GT I had owned previously.

    What's it like to park?

Tricky, due to rear and rear quarter visibility.

  • Living with it

Have you had any problems with the car?

Have needed a new brake calliper and oxygen sensor.

What's most practical about your car?

In terms of practicality, the fantastic thing about this car is that with the roof up it feels like a normal hardtop. The roof on my car creates no draughts nor creaks, and does not leak at all. However, with the roof down, it's an altogether different experience - it's like having two cars in one. The CRX is full of electrical gadgets too, including three electric windows, electric mirrors, ABS and of course the James Bond like electric roof. The factory fitted stereo cover is also an excellent idea.

    Favourite gadget, option or accessory?

The VTEC engine and the electric roof!
