Hyundai Ioniq review (2022)

In their own words

Overall I would rate the Ioniq as a very good car indeed and certainly one of the best I have ever owned. In my personal opinion I would give it 4.5 stars out of 5 and would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone looking for a reliable, comfortable family sized car that is very easy to drive and to live with.

Performance is acceptable. The car is best when driven in a relaxed manner anyway. In the default "Eco" mode acceleration is decent rather than dramatic, obviously designed to maximise fuel economy. The use of the steering wheel mounted paddles to hold onto a lower gear when overtaking improves things considerably, as does selecting "Sport" mode. 3/5.

Economy is the car's strong point. The best I have achieved on a 100+ mile journey on a mix of motorways and A roads has been an indicated 72.6 mpg. On average I am getting 65 - 70 mpg during the warmer months and 55 - 60 mpg during the winter when my wife and I take full advantage of the excellent heated seats and steering wheel. 4.5/5.

Comfort and equipment levels are excellent on my Premium SE model. While initially I found the infamous foot operated parking brake rather unfamiliar and awkward to use, I quickly got used to it and now apply it and release it without thinking when I leave and enter the car. In addition to the aforementioned heated seats, I found the ventilated function rather useful during the heatwaves of summer 2022. The seat memory functions and the way the driver's seat slides automatically backwards and forwards when opening and closing the door are also nice touches which add to the user friendly nature of the car. Compared to my previous car, a Tucson, I do miss not having a rear wash/wipe and static cornering lights. So overall 4.5/5

How reliable do you find the car?

As with other Hyundai models I have owned previously, the Ioniq has been 100% reliable.

Does the car do everything you expected it to do?

The Ioniq's qualities have grown on me over now nearly 18 momnths of ownership.
