• Summary

What does this car say about you?

Outdoor type who doesn't need (and can't afford!) the BMW / Mercedes badge.

What do your friends / family / neighbours think of the car?

Like it. Everyone likes the Tonka toy shape and it has plenty of room. I wish Jeep had carried on with an updated version of this shape, the later Cherokee is soooo dull compared.

Would you buy this car again and why?

I did, this is my second one.

What are you likely to buy next?

Definitely a Grand Cherokee 2.7 CRD

  • Buying experience

Type of dealer you bought from?

    Independent

Did you buy this car new?

    No

    What price did you pay?

    £0

When did you buy the car?

    July 2008

Did you get a good deal and why?

Secondhand cars are crazy money in Mallorca so always buy in Barcelona. Still expensive compared to UK prices

Is there any special reason why you bought this car?

I had the earlier model and liked it. Ideal for pulling the horse trailer in and out of muddy fields and onto the beach.

    What was the dealer like?

Bought as a trade sale from a wholesaler. Friendly enough but the car was filthy when I collected it.

  • Driving it

    4 out of 5 4.0

    What's it like to drive?

I Love it. The diesel engine is not bad despite having been around for ever. In the dry, the cornering power is astonishing no one else on the road seems to have the bottle to stay with me round the bends BUT in the wet beware!! On a neutral throttle all is well but try accelerating or braking and all hell breaks loose! Especially pulling out of a junction quickly in the wet - Dancing on Ice isn't a patch on the experience.

    What's it like to park?

No problem, good visibility. Who needs parking sensors with a tow bar.

  • Living with it

    4 out of 5 4.0

Have you had any problems with the car?

I have covered 55,000 miles in it. Only problem the ignition switch - turn to start position and nothing happened. Too costly to replce so local garage fitted a smart red start button (in keeping with its 'Sport' badge!).

What's most practical about your car?

Loads of space, really tough, tackles any terrain around the farm with ease - who needs a tractor?!

    Favourite gadget, option or accessory?

Haha - the 'Sport' model has nothing, mmm maybe it's the lightweight version for more perfomance? My old one which was the previous model had everything. I was amazed one could buy a car with no electric windows, no central locking, no ABS and not eeven any door pockets!
