Other Jeep Grand Cherokee (2005 - 2010) models:

  • Summary

    4 out of 5 4.0

What does this car say about you?

It doesn't send out an obvious message. Jeep have a good pedigree which I believe is better than say Nissan or Mitsibushi (both decent cars) but without the negative connotations which come with a Range Rover or a BMW X5. It's a little like an Audi in terms of having an understated image. You'll notice that Grand Cherokee owners don't have personalised number-plates!

What do your friends / family / neighbours think of the car?

I get the usual jibes about owning a big 4WD but I use the car off road and for towing, as well as day-to-day driving, so I have no guilt there! People like the car and I think they are surprised there are not more of them around.

Would you buy this car again and why?

Yes, this car has delivered on all counts. In its price range, I firmly believe it cannot be beaten as a true all-rounder.

What are you likely to buy next?

    I would consider another GC.

  • Buying experience

    4 out of 5 4.0

Type of dealer you bought from?

    Franchise

Did you buy this car new?

    Yes

    What price did you pay?

    £0

When did you buy the car?

    March 2006

Did you get a good deal and why?

I'm not sure if I got a good deal - I got 20% off the list price which of course sounds great but it wasn't clear if the dealer was offering genuine value for money or whether the list price was set artificially high. In the end, I felt fine about what I paid.

Is there any special reason why you bought this car?

I was looking for an off-roader which had pace on the road as well.

    What was the dealer like?

Salesman was pretty well-informed without being biased. Service team efficient and helpful (Ryfield, Sutton Coldfield).

  • Driving it

    4 out of 5 4.0

    What's it like to drive?

The 3 litre diesel is a great engine which knocks the socks off the competition in its price bracket and a lot of the competition above its price range. Why do people persist with buying donkey-slow Discos, Pathfinders or Shoguns when they can have an off-roader which beats most saloon cars?!

    What's it like to park?

Good visibility makes it ok to park but it is a big vehicle so you can't defy the laws of physics. There are rear sensors which help enormously although they only beep just before impact! Some front sensors would also be useful.

  • Living with it

    5 out of 5 5.0

Have you had any problems with the car?

I have had a couple of electronic niggles related to the heating and on-board computer but they were quickly sorted under warranty. Otherwise nothing in 18 months so far.

What's most practical about your car?

It can do anything - it looks good, goes fast, goes off-road, tows things with ease and carries people in comfort.

    Favourite gadget, option or accessory?

There is a good level of equipment, all of which performs well which makes driving stress-free.
