Jeep Renegade review

Want to know everything there is to know about this car?

In their own words

I have had Jeep cars since 2016, this is my 3rd Jeep Renegade. I have had a 2016, 2018 and now a 2021 plate car. This latest version is appalling, it has been wrecked by the manufacturer themselves. You can only get a 1ltr version that absolutely drinks fuel, best MPG is 27 miles mpg, previous 2018 Renegade had a diesel that did approx 45mpg! The engine stop/start system on Jeeps has always been awful and  IMOdangerous, but on previous models you could disable it permanently. In 2012 I bought a brand new Golf Cabriolet (Blue motion) with Stop/Start which was wonderful and operated faultlessly. With this 2021 plate Renegade, you have to remember to switch it off everytime you put the ignition key in. Its a downright dangerous system and very nearly killed me the first week of driving this car, the engine cuts out sporadically, not when it is supposed to, and I had a fully laden HGV on a major roundabout approaching me from the side, the lorry driver had to do a full emergency stop causing his trailer to snake. Its only by his driving skills I'm still in one piece. I've subsequently jamed the Stop/Start system button closed with a piece of plastic that looks unsightly in the cabin. This is clearly a big problem with Jeeps, in the USA you can buy an in-line module to self install that will permanently disable this system. The automatic forward anti-collision braking system is even worse. Even on its gentlest setting in the car setup options, the car breaks irratically when you’re in slow crawling traffic, causing cars behind you to brake for no reason, and causes your driving to be dangerous. In the past, I have had a great experience with previous Jeep Renegade’s, but I would not recommend this latest uneconomical version (2021 plate) as it has been comprehensively ruined by Jeep themselves, with similar unreliable systems deployed across their whole range of vehicles.
