In their own words

2010 3.0 TDV6 XS.

These trucks are massively overrated. Mechanically they need constant parts replacement (OEM not cheap parts). The parts might be cheap but the downtime offsets that. Electronics can't be trusted - too 'clever' for their own good. Suspension and transmission parts are regular faults. Air suspension has a mind of its own and is a liability. Furthermore it's not as comfortable as you're let to believe. My old 2002 Toyota Avensis rides more smoothly down the farm lane than the all singing all dancing Disco!

I'm surprised people say it's "the best car they've ever owned". They obviously haven't tried much else. For towing 3.5t I'd prefer a Shogun / Mercedes GL / Touareg.

Interior cubby space is lacking unless the door bins suffice. The steering wheel is too big (diameter), the steering under-geared, the heating controls are less logical than the others - automatically putting the fan on full when choosing Hi or Lo temperature - sure you can turn the fan back down, but it's a bit silly. Also the dual zone climate lacks the button to sync the two sides - again, not thought through. Seating position never seems just right - I'm always adjusting it every half hour or so. The keyless ignition is more of a headache than a traditional key - there's nowhere to put the keys - there are some odd shaped holes and bins around the gear lever but they are all useless shapes and collect dirt.

Electric window switches are in a really stupid position - high up on the window ledge - not to hand at all.

Specification is low compared to Shogun / Jeep GC. No reversing camera apart from HSE.

I dread the belt changes and possible snapped cranks. Look at how thin the crank webs are. Then look at a Shogun or Touareg crank - twice the build.

Good points - phone connectivity; gearbox more direct than the Mercedes / Jeep NAG1.

If it's for work get a Shogun, if it's for long distance comfort get a GLE350d.
