Land Rover Freelander (2006 - 2014) 2.2 Td4 XS 5d Owner Review

Want to know everything there is to know about this car?

In their own words

Was looking for a family car after my previous roadster that would mostly be used for the odd tip run, family UK holidays (with all the accompanying baby stuff) and looked quite modern with good safety features (5 star NCAP and Isofix). The FL2 ticks all those boxes (just bear in mind that the boot isn’t massive, just decent). It’s a big heavy car but drives nicely for what it is and is very comfortable. Speaking of size, don’t expect a frugal car, I manage high twenties MPG pottering around and on a run you can break forty MPG if you drive within the speed limits. Spec massively impacts the value of these cars. It’s goes S, GS, XS, SE, HSE (plus a few special editions). I have a standard 2007 XS that has cruise, climate, half leather, auto lights/wipers, pioneer sound system inc sub plus headphone sockets in the back that allow rear passengers to listen to different stations/CDs than the rest of the car. The only thing I ‘miss’ are luxuries like heated seats/screen, armrest and DAB (but I can plug my phone into the built in aux socket). Really impressed overall. My only concern with the car is the possibility of haldex/rear differential problems that gets mention a bit on the forums (but try not to worry, all single make car clubs harp on about problems and let’s face it, who would ever post on a car forum just to say ‘my car is working perfectly’)... Would definitely buy another. Possibly should have tested an auto before buying the manual. Feel it probably suits the driving style more...

How reliable do you find the car?

Just a crankshaft sensor. Cheap an easily fixed.

Does the car do everything you expected it to do?

I reviewed the car thoroughly before purchasing so I had an idea what I was getting myself into. However, it surprised me how well it drive considering it’s age and mileage.
