In their own words

A really good all rounder and very reliable. Not very economical and you can lose the back in the wet even with traction control, but it goes really well and I'm still enjoying it five years on. Quick, comfortable, well equipped and very reliable, it does so many things so well. Never expected to keep it so long, that speaks for itself. Sad that Lexus no longer makes anything nearly as desirable. Very few is300s around, most were is200s, but the bigger engine transforms the car. Worth seeking out.

How reliable do you find the car?

Wheel bearings on the back, calipers on the front, couple of lambda sensors, rear parking sensors renewed, mirror glasses tend to delaminate (replace with non self-dimming ones, these cost very little and last much longer). Alloys prone to corrosion, but bodywork lasting very well indeed. For a 15 year-old car, I reckon that's a pretty short list.

Does the car do everything you expected it to do?

Had a 2 litre version of the same car for five years, liked it but never got on with the gearbox (six speed manual) and felt it lacked torque. IS300 answers these criticisms completely and adds some extra toys to boot. Much much better car.
